What to Do After an Escalator or Elevator Injury
A few steps after a device injury protect your health and your claim — including the device and records others control and can alter. Here is a simple checklist.
Get medical care
See a doctor right away, even if you feel okay. Some injuries appear later, and a record connects them to the incident.
Report it and get an incident report
Report the injury to building management or the property and make sure an incident report is created. Ask for a copy, and note the location and time.
Identify and photograph the device
Photograph the escalator or elevator, any visible defect, the inspection certificate posted in it, and the surrounding area. Note the device's ID or permit number if visible.
Get witnesses and staff names
Get names and numbers for any witnesses and the staff involved, and note who services the device if you can tell.
Act fast to preserve the evidence
The device can be repaired and records lost. Be careful about recorded statements, and get advice quickly so the device and its service records can be preserved.
