What to Do After a Hotel Injury
A few steps after a hotel injury protect your health and your claim — including records the property controls and can lose. Here is a simple checklist.
Get medical care
See a doctor right away, even if you feel okay. Some injuries appear later, and a record connects them to the incident.
Report it and get an incident report
Report the injury to the front desk or management and make sure an incident report is created. Ask for a copy, and note the property name, room or area, and time.
Photograph the hazard and area
Photograph the spill, broken step, loose railing, or other hazard, and the surrounding area, before it is fixed. Your own photos are proof the property cannot alter.
Keep your reservation details
Save your booking confirmation, folio, and room information, which establish you were a guest and help identify the property and its operator.
Act fast to preserve records
Housekeeping logs and footage can be lost quickly. Be careful about recorded statements to the insurer, and get advice so the records and footage can be preserved.
The deadlines and rules depend on your state
The steps above apply wherever you were hurt. Filing deadlines, fault rules, and limits on damages differ by state — pick yours for what applies to hotel resort injuries.
