Motorcycle Accident Scene Evidence Checklist
Evidence at the scene disappears fast. If you are safe and able, this checklist helps you capture what matters before it is gone.
Photos and video
Wide shots of the whole scene plus close-ups of vehicle damage, your motorcycle, license plates, skid marks, debris, road defects, traffic signals, signs, and your injuries. More is better.
The other driver's details
Name, phone, address, driver's license number, plate, and insurance company and policy number. Note the make, model, and color of the vehicle.
Witnesses
Names and phone numbers of anyone who saw the crash. Riders especially benefit from independent witnesses, who become very hard to find later.
Road and conditions
Note the date, time, weather, lighting, and any road hazard — gravel, potholes, uneven pavement — while it is fresh, since a hazard can be part of the claim.
Official response
Get the responding officer's name and the crash report number, and note any citations issued to the other driver.
