Product Information to Gather After an Injury
Identifying exactly what the product is and where it came from is essential to a product case. This checklist covers what to record.
Model and serial numbers
Find and record the make, model, serial or lot number, and any manufacturing date on the product or its label. These identify the exact unit and its maker.
Where and when you got it
Note where you bought or obtained the product, when, and how — retailer, online seller, or secondhand — and keep the receipt or order record.
The maker and any brands
Record the manufacturer and any brand names, importers, or 'distributed by' information on the product or packaging.
How you were using it
Write down exactly how you were using the product when it failed, and whether you followed the instructions. Be factual.
Any warnings or instructions
Keep the manuals, warnings, and instructions, and note what they did or did not say about the danger that caused your injury.
