Rideshare Accident Checklist

How to Save Your Rideshare App Records After a Crash

Your app data can prove the driver was working and which coverage applies — but it is easy to lose. This checklist covers what to capture and keep.

  1. Screenshot the trip details

Capture the driver's name and photo, the vehicle and plate, the pickup and drop-off points, the date and time, and the fare receipt.

  2. Save the trip receipt email

Rideshare apps usually email a trip receipt. Save it — it independently documents the ride and the time.

  3. Report through the app and keep confirmation

Report the crash in the app and screenshot the confirmation, so there is a record that you reported it.

  4. Do not delete the app or the trip

Keep the app installed and do not clear your trip history, so the records remain accessible if needed.

  5. Write down what you remember

Note the driver's app status if you know it (waiting, en route, on a trip) and anything the driver said, while it is fresh.

The deadlines and rules depend on your state

The steps above apply wherever you were hurt. Filing deadlines, fault rules, and limits on damages differ by state — pick yours for what applies to rideshare accidents.
