What to Do After a Rideshare Accident
After an Uber or Lyft crash, the usual steps matter — plus a few specific to rideshare, especially saving your app records. Here is a simple checklist.
Get safe and call 911
Get out of traffic if you can and call 911 so police create an official report and paramedics can check everyone. Do this even for a crash that seems minor.
Screenshot your trip in the app
Before anything disappears, capture the driver, the vehicle and plate, the time, and the route in the app. This app data can be central to proving which coverage applies.
Report the crash through the app
Use the Uber or Lyft app to report the crash, which creates a record with the company. This is different from giving a recorded statement to an adjuster.
Document the scene
Photograph the vehicles, damage, the scene, and your injuries, and get the names, numbers, and insurance of every driver involved, plus any witnesses.
Get medical care and be careful with insurers
See a doctor even if you feel okay, and be cautious about recorded statements to any insurer — the rideshare company's or a driver's — before you have advice.
